Transit fares are expected to increase, if the budget is approved. Cash fares will go up by 25 cents to $3.75. An adult monthly pass will increase by $5 to $120, the student monthly pass will rise to $75, up from $70, a se nior pass will cost $55 a month, a $5 increase, while a group of10 senior bus tickets will go up 50 cents to $18.50. Presto fares would also see a hike, with adult prices set to rise by 10 cents to $2.95, while students will pay $2.25, up five cents. Mary Rose van Kesteren appeared before the Budget Committee as a del egate. She expressed concern over Oakville' s transit system, particularly The owners of an Oakville home assessed at $700,000 will pay an extra $115.36 per year ($2.22 a week) -- or $16.48 per $100,000 of assessment -- on their property tax bill next year -- if the Town passes its 2017 budget Monday (Dec. 12). That' s a hike of 1.99 per cent on the overall tax bill. It' s actually a 3.21 per cent increase on the Town' s portion of the tax bill, which is softened by its combination with a lesser hike from Halton Region and no change to education taxes. While residents pay taxes to the Town, the Councillor TomAdams taxes collected are divid ed among the municipality (Oakville), regional munici pality (Halton), and whichever school board (Catholic or public), a property owner elects to support. see Transit on p.11 Sheridan College marked the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women Tuesday (Dec. 6) with a vigil in memory of the 14 women gunned down 27 years ago at CEcole Polytechnique in the Montreal Mas sacre.
