The pre-teen started singing with the Canadian Children's Opera Com pany's Ruby Chorus in To ronto at age four -- a year younger than when the choir traditionally accepts members. She then took private voice les sons at age nine with vocal teacher Linda Fletcher. She also started playing the piano at seven. Vienna was enrolled in ballet at age two and as she got older, began to take all styles of dance recre ationally, she said. Last year, she auditioned to be come a competitive dancer for the Canadian Dance Company, based out of Oakville. "Tap is m y thing though," she said. "I really want to be a great solo tap dancer, m ake podium at worlds and compete at the ArtsGames on Team Canada." ArtsGames is a 10-day medalled competition of live events in music, dance, literature, and m edia and vi sual arts. With Montreal set to be the host city for the inaugural gam es in 2018, the event will take place ev- welve-year-old Oakville resi dent Vienna Maryce was re cently awarded the Provincial Gold Medal from the Royal Conser vatory of Music (RCM ) and achieved the highest exam mark in voice for all of Ontario for 2016. This year m arks the second time she's won provincial gold in voice. "The thing that works for me is, when I take m y exam s or compete, I don't aim to beat other people, but try to give 100 per cent of what my repertoire requires, to sing exactly how the songs should be sung -- so the m usic is m y ju d ge," Vienna told the Oakville Beaver. "I do the sam e thing for piano when I'm preparing for provincials. I get less nervous when I ju st focus on the m usic. I'm really lucky I won the Provincial Gold Medal back-toback." But the accolades don't end there. Vienna also recently placed fifth at The World Dance Cham pion ships, which were held in Riesa, Germany this year. Her answer? She wants to do it all. "I'd like to star on Broadway, act in TV and movies, or be a pop star," she admitted. "One day, I'd also like to be a movie director behind the scenes because I love writing, acting, m aking m ovies and m usic videos. Also, editing, photography, singing, dancing and playing pia no...
