www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, February 24, 2 0 1 7 | 1 0 Open house will answer questions about noise, dust and debris continued from p.1 "At our last open house, residents asked ques tions about noise, dust, debris and traffic-rout ing during the demolition. I encourage all resi dents to drop by our open house to learn more about our comprehensive strategy and the plans we have in place to address these concerns." The former hospital site project will eventu ally see the Town working with community partners to create a new community centre, park and future residential area. The demolition will be completed using standard mechanical demolition, the most-widely used method of building demolition, according to the Town, which involves specialized mecha nized equipment, articulated lifts and cranes. Demolition of the buildings will be environmentally-friendly and incorporate the reduce, reuse and recycle concept, with the contractor diverting as much waste as possible from land fill. This stage of the overall project involves de molishing the buildings, conducting a commu nity needs assessment, determining the appro priate location for the centre and park, as well as developing a plan for future residential on any remaining lands. Following the demolition, development of the community centre will take three years to com plete with an opening scheduled for the end of 2020. Also, the Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) is undertaking a third-party study on the future health needs of the area surrounding the former hospital site. The study is the first step in response to residents' requests for consideration of local health care services to be provided in the area. Once the results are released, the Town and LHIN will further investigate opportunities for joint programming at the former hospital site in cluding those related to a health hub. The legacy OTMH site was part of the Town's overall South Central Public Lands Study, which reviewed a number of key sites owned by it in south central Oakville and made recommenda tions about their future uses, including recre ational.
