Helios He, Andrew Liou and Alexander Giannotti won gold medals in the boys' 11, 12 and 13 age groups, respectively. Dania El Sammak, 15, earned a silver medal in the Open W om en' s division for skaters ages 14 and up. Nicole Vrazinovski rounded out the event with a bronze. Sherise Gratton, Alina San tos, Connor Waters, Kai Abdool, Jaden Lo, Frank Feng and Samuel Mathew all earned top-six finish es. Form er Oakville speed skater, Ryan McAnuff, meanwhile, was skating in the Short Track 2 0 1 7 World Championships in Rotter dam on the weekend, representing Ireland. McAuff finished 36th overall out of 5 7 elite short track skaters from around the world. His best finish was 29th in the 5 0 0 metres. Matt O'Donnell, head coach of the Oakville club, volunteered to coach the Irish team of Sean and Ryan McAnuff on their inaugural World Cup journey. PWHL Hornets hope to oust Sabres Saturday Kristen Siermachesky scored for Stoney Creek at the 15:33 mark of the third period to give the host Sabres a 1-0 win Tuesday and extend their best-of-five Pro vincial W om en's Hockey Teague playoff series with the Oakville Hornets. Oakville still leads 2-1, with Game 4 back in Stoney Creek tom orrow (Saturday) at 3:05 p.m. If a fifth game is necessary it will be played at Joshua Creek Arenas at 3 :3 0 p.m. on Sunday March 19. Oakville' s Maddy McArthur and Stoney Creek' s Han nah Miller were engaged in a goaltender battle in Game 3 until Siermachesky broke the scoreless tie on a goal set up by Samantha Watkins and Mary Corby. In Game 2 in Burlington last Saturday Fexie Adzija's second goal of the con test sparked a thirdperiod charge as the H ornets defeated Stoney Creek 4 -1 . W ith the teams tied 1-1 in the third period, Oakville scored three times in five minutes. Adzija broke a 1-1 deadlock midway through the third and Victoria Klimek added to the H ornets' lead 41 sec onds later. Stoney Creek tried to get back in the game when it pulled its goalie during a power play with five minutes to play but Brooke Jovanovich scored an empty-net goal to cap a three-point game. Hornets' netminder Madison Oakes made 28 saves for the win. Adzija opened the scoring with the only goal of the first period but Stoney Creek' s Alyssa Holmes tied it up in the second. The winner of the series advances to the PWHFs fi nal four tournament, which will be hosted by Oakville March 24-26. Blades/Cougars series starts tonight The Oakville Blades host the first two games of their Ontario Junior Hockey League South West Con ference semifinal playoff series with the Burlington Cougars. Both games will be held at Sixteen Miles Sports Complex at 8 p.m. to night (Friday) and tomorrow. Games 3 and 4 will be held at Appleby Ice Centre in Burling ton on Monday, March 2 0 and Wednesday, March 2 2 at 7 :3 0 p.m. The Blades and Cougars needed just five games to dispose of the North York Rangers and Toronto Patriots, respectively, in the quar ter-finals. Georgetown leads the Toronto Canadiens 1-0 in the other confer ence semifinal series. Lexie Adzija scored two goals to lead the Oakville Hornets to a 4-1 win over the Stoney Creek Sabres in the second game of their Provincial Women's Hockey League best-of-five series, which Oakville leads 2-1.
