SouthAsian bazaaropen thisSaturday April 22 Featuring traditional clothes, jewelry, henna, handicrafts, entertainment and food, the Oakville South Asian Spring Bazaar and Festival returns Saturday, April 22. This year' s bazaar will be held at St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre, 1280 Dundas St., W., from noon to midnight. Ad mission is free. Oakville is a rapidly-growing town with an even faster growing South Asian, particularly Muslim population, said Muneezah Jawad, who is organiz ing the event with her business partner Zaitoon Umer. "We want everyone to come out and have some fun," added Jawad. Jawad hopes the bazaar will bring the South Asian and Oakville communities together and create a better understand ing all around. She said these kinds of events only really happen in Mississauga, Brampton and Malton. Last year, Jawad says they did an Eid bazaar, which was well received, attract ing more than 1,000 visitors. This time, Jawad said she hopes this event will be even better this year. Her mission is to make this bazaar an annual event. This year' s bazaar will feature many members of the Oakville community and there are already 50 vendors par ticipating. There will also be raffles and prizes. Local members of parliament and provincial parliament have been invited to event. Halton MPP Indira NaidooHarris is a guest speaker at 3 p.m. Zaytouna Dabke, a Palestinian and Middle Eastern dance group, will be performing at 3:30 p.m. and there will be a live reptile show at 5 p.m. "We would like to encourage new businesses to expand into the Town of Oakville and most importantly we would love it if members from all faiths would attend," Jawad said in a media release. "We strongly believe in the words `unity and community' to strengthen the ties in Oakville between people of all faiths and beliefs and cultures," the release added.
