They're in Brampton Thursday night for a game against the Capitals and on Friday, 7:45 p.m., they host the Streetsville Derbys at Ice Sports Oakville. After an opening tie against Burlington, the Blades have now dropped six in a row including Sunday's 7-4 loss to the visiting Milton Merchants. A four goal outburst in the second period broke open a 22 deadlock and powered Milton to victory. The Blades got one back before the end of the second period to cut the deficit to 6-3 but by then the damage had been done. The teams traded goals in the final -Same. Explosion finish with bronze The Oakville Explosion U-14 girls rep soccer team ended their 2000 campaign, winning the bronze medal at the Weston tournament. The Explosion opened the tourney strongly but had to settle for a 1-1 tie with Caboto. Heather Lockhart scored the Oakville goal. In the second game against Sudbury, the Explosion were happy to settle for a 2-2 tie after fighting their way back from a 2-0 deficit. Lisa Telebar scored on a penalty boot and Brook Johnson on a booming direct kick. Undefeated but still needing a win to advance, Oakville came through with a 1-0 j verdict over Bolton, the goal by Jennifer Pitkin. In the semifi nals, however, Oakville ran up against the Nike Cup champion Oshawa Kickers, i falling 3-0. Oakville rebounded for a thrilling win in the bronze medal match, 2-1 on overtime penalty kicks. Melissa Hyland scored her first of the year in regula tion time, giving Oakville a short lived 1-0 lead. The first round of five shooters still left nothing resolved (Lisa Telebar, Melissa Hyland, Jessica Sacripante and Jessica Pudweli scoring). Tanya Dias was the hero in the sudden death round.
