The Co-operators Oakville Fam ily Ribfest, now in its sixth year, runs from Friday, June 23 to Sunday, June 25, at Sheridan College's Oakville Cam pus, 1430 Trafalgar Rd. Volunteers from the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar organize the popular family festival. Sheridan College is the host sponsor and The Co-operators is the presenting sponsor, in addition to num erous community sponsors. "It's going to be exciting," said Chair Trish Peden. The three-day event attracts between 30,000 and 35,000 people, depending on the weather. Adm ission is free, but donations are welcome, since Ribfest is a charitable fundraiser run by Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar. Since its inception, the festival has raised more than $300,000 for the community. In addition to great food, there will be more that 24 booths representing local businesses, charities and community groups in the artisan alley and community marketplace with everything from original art, jewellery, hot sauces, health-care products and clothing. Pets are prohibited in the event area, because of the large crowds and food preparation. Service animals are permitted. There will be on-site parking for $10, which goes to charity, and includes a coupon booklet for Ribfest vendors. Free parking is available at nearby Town Hall, with shuttle buses, people movers (golf carts) and a horse-drawn wagon for the children. The Trafalgar Road cam pus also has access to transit and bicycle racks. Volunteers are needed to make the festival a great event. There are more than 200 positions to be filled including: staffing entrance gates and parking lots; event set up and take down; greeting and helping visitors; serving beverages; bussing tables; and, helping with the Kids' PlayZone. In honour of Canada's sesquicentennial anniversary, Oakville's Ribfest will also feature a Canada 150 tent with historical photos and information. Peden said the tent will focus on education and members of the Metis will show people how to bead while elders will host a story telling feature. Other food items This year's ribbers include Silver Bullet BBQ, Kentucky Smokehouse, Tennessee Fatbacks, Billy Bones BBQ, Boss H og's , Brick Yard BBQ, Other food vendors will offer an assortment of treats, including poutine, chicken on a bun, hot dogs, back bacon on a bun, cornon-the-cob, blooming onions, fried potatoes, doughnuts, funnel cake, Beaver Tails, popcorn, ice cream, flavoured ices, lemonade and more. Vegetarian food is also available. Beer and wine will be on sale.
