Emergency services, including Oakville Fire and Halton police, rushed to a home on Burloak Drive at Randolph Crescent (just north of Lakeshore Road) just before 2:30 p.m. for a reported lightning strike to the home. Upon arriving at the scene, fire crews encountered light smoke on the second floor of the detached home. Further investigation revealed smouldering insulation, charred roofing joists and a gaping hole, almost two feet wide, on the north side of the roof, according to Oakville Fire Platoon Chief Dave Denver. There were no injuries, and the residents who were home at the time, were able to escape with their pet, unharmed. Fire crews remained on scene overhauling the affected second-storey bathroom and a ladder crew put a tarp over the hole to prevent further water damage to the interior of the house as thunderstorms remained in the area.
