(Richardson) Gatquatic Divers compete in first meet; Oakville members end up in the medals A contingent of nine Gatquatic Divers competed in their first meet of the season at last weekend's Greater Niagara Diving Exchange. Competing were the experienced level one and two divers (there are four levels). This season Janice Austen-DeGrant and George Tinnerman are the head coaches with five diver/coaches -- Nicole Evans, Esther Francoeur (of Oakville), Darren Godin, Don Holmes and Leslie Parkes. In addition, there are two leam-to-dive instructors -- Dave Caron and Carolyn MacNamara. Here are the results of the Oakville competitors. Chelsea Leggat, competing in level two, girls 12-13 years, finished 8th on the one-metre board. Esther Francoeur, competing in level two, female 16 and over, finished 1st on the one-metre board and 1st on the three-metre board. Melissa Melia, competing in level one, girls 12-13, finished 1st on the one-metre board and 1st on the three-metre board. Katie Quinlan, competing in level one, girls 12-13, finished 2nd on the one-metre board and 3rd on the three-metre board. Patrick Marsh had the hat-trick with single markers to Jonathan Brand and Steve Guzzo. Assists went to Spencer Metcalfe (2), Matt Lorito (2), Cam Watts and Anthony Scalia. After a 9-0 pasting the previous meet ing, Niagara Falls seemed intent to beat Oakville in the alley as witnessed by the 26 penalties in 30 minutes of play. The game was curfewed with 10 minutes left. Win, loss and tie and Fort Erie `A A' tourney Here is the recent action for the Oakville Rangers m inor peewee A rep team. Nov. 10/11: a record of one win, one tie and a loss was not good enough to lift the team into the playoff round at the Fort Erie AA tourney. Oakville got better as they went on, opening up with a 5-0 loss to Mississauga. Oakville then settled for a 3-3 tie against LaSalle after being unable to hold on to a 3-1 lead. Goals were scored by Matt Bandy, Brett Thompson and Jeff Budd. Assists went to Budd (2) and Thompson. Oakville gained some revenge with a 5-3 win over Barrie, having lost to them in an earlier tournament. Oakville held four one-goal leads before scoring their fifth goal. Goals were scored by Brett Thompson (2), Bryan Richardson, Matt Bandy and Kyle Brodie. Assists went to Bandy, Myles Thompson, Jeff Budd, Brodie and Carson Shold. Nov. 13: Steve Mason earned the shutout in a 3-0 win over Woolwich. Goals were scored by Bryan Richardson, Matt Bandy and Jeff Budd. Nov. 17/18: Oakville took on tough opposition in a Mississauga AA tourna ment, settling for one tie in three tries. In their opener, Oakville came back twice to tie Flamborough 2-2. Goals were scored by Brett Thompson and Brendan Farrer. Assists went to Jeff Budd and Brennan Gregoris. In their second game, Oakville were looking to improve on a 5-0 loss to Mississauga at the Fort Erie tourney, and they settled for a 3-1 margin. Mike Meschino scored for Oakville, to make it 2-1 at the time. Oakville then absorbed a 1-0 loss to Vaughan. Oakville dominated the first and third period, outshooting Vaughan 37-19, overall, but couldn't answer Vaughan's second period marker. Oakville closed out the tourney with another meeting with Mississauga, this time all but shutting down their offence in allowing but one goal. Unfortunately, Oakville didn't score any. Nov. 19: Oakville fought back from two one-goal deficits to defeat Hespeler 4-3. Goals were scored by Bryan Richardson, O.J. Jones, Myles Thompson and Alex Tierney. Assists went to Jones (2), Brett Thompson, Kyle Brodie and Carson Shold. Nov. 21: Oakville couldn't hold two one-goal leads, settling for a 2-2 tie with Hespeler. On Dec. 16, Oakville blasted out of the gate with two early goals and then held on for an exciting 4-3 win over Burlington. Oakville also held leads of 3-1 and 4-2. Brett Chandler opened the scoring just 12 seconds into the game as he took advantage of some great hustle by Kevin Oliviera off the opening face off. At the 1:43 mark Jamie MacKenzie's one-timer from Jordan Macintosh made it 2-0 with Aaron Mirsky also picking up an assist. Kevin Oliviera scored on a penalty shot and Chandler, with his second of the 4 -3 w in over Burlington game, got the eventual winner, assisted by Oliviera. Kris McCoubrey was sharp in net, turning aside 23 shots. On Dec. 17, a 15-2 win over Milton, stretched Oakville's unde feated string to 24 games (22 wins and two ties), outscoring the opposition 138-30. Point-getters for Oakville were Dan Aziz (4g, 4a). Their win streak had been recent ly snapped at 14 games. With these two wins they now stand at 174 on the season. Offensively to date, these Rangers have scored 95 goals, a 4.52 average per game, while strong goaltending from Grayson Douglas and Kevin Campbell has allowed only 37 goals to date for a stellar 1.76 combined goals against average. The first win against Hespeler was in their arena, 3-2. Jeff Burton, visiting from the house league, put in another strong perfor mance.
