A worldwide initiative bom in London, England three years ago challenged communities around the globe to help create a Ribbon of Light December 31, 1999, linking nations and people in a universal symbol of hope and renewal. The Oakville 2000 Millennium Committee developed this initiative as a program to iinvolve the children of Oakville in the Millennium Celebrations with hand held beacons distributed throughout our community during the Fall/Winter of 1999. The commemorative beacons are sold for $5.00 each and raise funds and awareness for the Heritage Trails legacy of the Oakville 2000 Millennium Committee in partnership with the Community Foundation of Oakville and Oakville schools.
