"Suddenly things are opening up, after all these years of painting...I feel so blessed. Everything is going so well in my life. I'm getting more offers than I can handle." Shemdin is teaching art full-time at Burlington Cen tral High School this year, but is already finding that the structured schedule is restricting her studio time, as is framing and canvas stretching, which she does her self. "I need to paint, and I want to p ain t.. .There is a lot of interesting stuff now that these things are opening up for me," she explains. "I am reaching the point where I will buy ready stretched (canvas). I want to work faster." This past summer, however, Shemdin says she was able to relax more and enjoy moments of pure creativity as she and some o f her artist friends traveled to the coun tryside to paint. "It was the best, to spend a Canadian summer with the birds and the trees. Everything is so beautiful," she says. "It gets into your system and m akes you happy...the healing power of nature. It's a wonderful experience." Some o f Shemdin's work is currently on display in a group exhibit at the Oakville Municipal Building, 1225 Trafalgar Rd. (at White Oaks Boulevard); 338-4161. She is also part of a group exhibition in the Perry Gallery of the Burlington Art Centre, 133 Lakeshore Rd., Burlington (632-7796). for romantic comedy West End Studio Theatre (W.E.S.T.) will hold open audi tions from 1 to 3 p.m. and again from 7 to 10 p.m. tomor row (Saturday) and from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Sunday (Dec. 13th) for its production o f Any Wednesday, a light hearted romantic comedy by Muriel Resnick. There are four roles to be filled - a powerful, suave, manipulative American billionaire, aged 40 to 50, the bil lionaire's posh, socialite wife, also aged 40 to 50, an attrac tive, quirky, eccentric woman, aged 30, and a 30-year-old handsome, rugged businessman. Production dates are M arch 16th, 17th, 18th, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and 25th. W.E.S.T. is also taking registration for its acting work shops for adults and children, beginning at age 5.
