On Aug. 6, celebrations of India's 70th independence were held at the Milton Centre for the Arts, where the flag of India was raised to fly for 10 days. The event also included the singing of O Canada and India's national anthem by junior groups, as well as songs and cultural programs representative of different states in India. The non-profit Canadian Indian Association of Halton works to help unite various Indian cultural associations and groups, to project a common identity based on their Indian heritage, and to celebrate Unity in Diversity within Halton.
