The Burloak team won in a time of one minute, 53.401 seconds, knocking more than four-and-ahalf seconds off the record time of 1:57.915 it established last year. The crew included Lily Armstrong, Gabrielle Bowman, Anya Chuprys, Erin Demopolis, Kirpa Dhillon, Emily Little, Camille Looper, Annie Messenger, Jenna Neate, Kate Pennyfather, Lucy Pennyfather, Madison Vernooy, Brooke Westwater, Aine Willis and team captain Hunter George. The victory was one Burloak's 11 wins at the national championships, helping the club finish third in the overall standings. "I haven't raced that for two years so I was excited to see that was where I excelled the most," said Pennyfather, who earned a gold and two silver medals the previous week at the Canada Games. She was also a part of Burloak's winning crews in the junior C-4 500m (with Jillian Perrone, Little and Vernooy), the under-19 women's K-4 (with Messenger, Vernooy and Olivia Browning) and the senior women's C-15. Vernooy also earned a pair of gold medals in war canoe, giving her a total of four golds at nationals. Westwater, Bowman, Looper and Kate Pennyfather each contributed to three Burloak war canoe wins. Burloak's Max Perry won the under-17 men's C-1 6,000m while Jenna Neate took first in the women's under-17 K-1 6,000m. Mitchell Barran teamed up with Rob Clarke to win the senior men's K-2 1,000. Burloak's other three wins were in the war canoe races, winning the under-17 women's, senior men's and senior mixed titles. Burloak finished with 518 points. Oakville built an early 2-0 lead but North Mississauga battled back to tie the game before the half. "Our focus and intention (Sunday) was to try and maintain some consistency and I think we did that," said Oakville Blue Devils head coach Duncan Wilde. "We set off really well and took a well-deserved twonil lead in 20 minutes and had no danger whatsoever, and then we became complacent." The win extended the Blue Devils' winning streak to seven games and their lead atop the League1 Ontario's West Division standings to six points. With the match tied 2-2 in the second half, McNamara's header went to Anthony Novak, who backfooted a return pass to McNamara. He drove home what proved to be the winning goal in the 69th minute. Five minutes later, his header off a corner kick extended Oakville's lead to 4-2. "We had to refocus at half-time," Wilde said. "We made some changes to try and play in a different way, trying to get the ball wider, sooner. It worked for us and we created six or seven really good chances and took two of them." Mathew Santos got Oakville on the board early. He slipped in behind coverage, converting a pass at the far post for his team-leading 13th goal of the season. Oakville added to its lead when Khody Ellis scored off Judah Hernandez's corner kick in the 19th minute. After Oakville controlled the play for much of the half, the Panthers evened things up with goals in the 30th and 37th minute.
