wvwv.insidehalton.com |OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, October 20, 2017 11 6 N e w fitn e s s c lu b h e lp s y o u fin d y o u r e d g e Downtown Oakville's newest fitness club will be catering to people who want to achieve their health goals in a comfortable, and unintimidating environment. "Our vision at Waters Edge Fitness (WEF), is to make people realize their own personal potential, whether that means being able to perform at a higher level at a sport they enjoy, or just being able to keep up with their grandkids," said Mark Waters, founder of WEF, which will be opening on Wednesday, Nov. 1. With a more mature demographic, he explained, "We want to give people the best quality years possible, as opposed to the best quantity." Waters emphasized that he wants clients to want to know what they're doing, and to ensure they understand how the equipment works. "We don't want people to be intimidated, we want to make them more confident and give them a setting where they're not intimidated." After running fitness clubs for the last 23 years, Waters decided this is what he wants to do for the next 30 years. He wants to stay within his community, and to provide a fitness club unlike the rest. A huge difference between WEF and typical gyms and fitness centres, is that there is no contract at WEF. "When people come into our facility, if they are made to feel welcome, they will look forward to coming back," said Waters. "At a lot of big, box clubs, people aren't getting the attention they deserve; we don't want to lock people into contracts because we want to make sure you are happy with your experience." The facility will have staff that will be able to assist clients with making sure they are comfortable with the machines and that they are getting results they deserve for the time they are investing. "As clients get results, they enjoy the gym experience because as people, we love what we're good at, and if you're getting results at the gym, you will love that feeling and your confidence level in all areas of your life will increase," said Waters. "At WEF we want your personal goal to be like your own personal championship." WEF is located at 11 Lakeshore Rd. West in Oakville. Family health centre offers specialized services Services for diabetes are rarely found at family health centres, but Alim Janmohamed, the clinic director and a diabetes educator at Health Sense Medical Clinic and PharmaSense Pharmacy, is mak ing sure that diabetic services, as well as travel medicine and an Ideal Protein weight-loss program, which are all unique to family practices, are readily available to patients. Being a diabetes educator, Janmohamed wanted patients to have a place to go if they ever needed to get informed. "You tend to see diabetes educators as part of specialist clinics, you don't often find that resource within a family health practice," he explained. "Very often, for many patients, the diagnosis of diabe tes creeps up on them and it's often caught when they're visiting a family doctor, so it catches people off guard." Janmohamed explained that for people in this situation, he wants someone in the office who can work with diabetic patients the moment they are di agnosed, so then they can quickly become prepared and educated. As one of the few clinics that specialize in travel medicine, the team at Health Sense has also start ed focusing attention on developing that area as well. With their travel health services, patients pre paring to travel can get consultations on a personal ized travel health plan, travel vaccines and medica tion, travel advice, and country-specific travel health reports. "In order for a clinic to focus in on travel medicine, you need the resources, infrastructure, the space, and doctors who are certified in travel medicine." The clinic is also preparing to have a new chiro practor early in 2018 for patients that need reha bilitation. With all of these changes, Janmohamed also did some work behind-the-scenes. "Not all of them were visible changes," said Jan mohamed, who was working at Health Sense and PharmaSense for five years as the pharmacy man ager before he took his current position. "We've always been very good at helping people, we have great physicians and nurses, but I always want to keep working towards great patient care, team building, and good team communication. I want to make sure that we're working well together and helping our patients achieve their health related goals." Health Sense Medical is located at 2983 Westoak Trails in Oakville. The clinic is open Mon day to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Satur day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The pharmacy remains open until 4 p.m. on Saturday.
