The fourth-year W ilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks infielder fin ished the season with a .4 1 5 bat ting average, the third-best mark in the OUA. He also ranked am ong the top five in the league in on-base percentage (.5 1 6 ) , hits (2 2 ), walks (1 0 ) and stolen bases (five). In one memorable September game, Cant hit a two-run hom er to cap a five-run inning as Laurier erased a 4 -0 deficit in its final atbat to edge Guelph. Laurier finished second in the OUA with a 12 -4 record. After Laurier shut out McMaster 2-0 in the quarter-finals, Cant scored the Golden Hawks' first run and drove in the tying run as Laurier overcame a 4-1 deficit to edge Queen's 5 -4 in the semis. The University of Toronto end ed the Golden Hawks' bid for the championship with an 8-3 win in the final. CFL legend tackles touch game The W H . Canadian Football Hall of Fam e receiver Milt Stegall, who played 14 seasons with W inni peg in the C FL , dropped by the sch ool to visit with players in the sch o o l's intram ural tou ch football program . After the game he spoke to the players and parents about role models, education and doing the best at what you do. Stegall, now an analyst on TSN's C FL broadcasts, holds league re cords for career touchdowns (1 4 7 ) and touchdowns in a season (2 3 ) and ranks second all-time in career receiving yards (1 5 ,1 5 3 ). Girls on the Oakville Bantam B rep hockey team spent a recent morning serving breakfast at the Kerr Street Mission. Oakville runners took four of the five individual OFSAA qualifying spots with Abbey Park' s Nicole Par sons finishing third, Holy Trinity' s Lauren Taylor eighth and Chloe Calitri ninth. Oakville had three more qualifiers in the senior boys' race. Blakelock' s Declan Adams was second, Iroquois Ridge' s Bradley Brown was fifth and Loyola' s Jake Carenza was seventh. Holy Trinity' s Adam Gunner fin ished fifth in the junior boys' race to qualify for OFSAA. Garth Webb' s Rebecca Stevenson (seventh, junior girls) and Abbey Park's Kyle MacKenzie (10th , ju nior boys) had top-10 finishes but did not qualify for OFSAA.
