Friday October 22, 1999 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER 19 Art auction raised $15,000 for Guide Dogs The O ctober 14th art auction benefiting the Lions Foundation o f Canada Dog G uides was a huge success, say organizers, netting a total of $15,000. The m oney will go directly to the training of dog guides for Canadians who are blind, deaf and m edically/physically disabled. The art auction took place at Le Dome where 50 lim ited edition reproductions, donat ed by Dr. M ichael O stro of Toronto were put on the block. The reproductions, appraised at val ues betw een $250 to $1,000, were im ages from the likes o f Chagall, Dali, M iro, and Tarkay. The C anadian artists rep resented included Heather Cooper, Paul Kelley and M ark Farand. The evening also featured guest auctioneer mayor Ann Mulvale. Lions Foundation o f Canada has enriched the lives of more than 640 men, women and children from ages eight to 84 by providing the services o f specially trained dog guides. The Foundation manages a dog breeding facility in Breslau, Ontario and its training centre in Oakville. In total, the Foundation offers dog guides for the blind (Canine Vision C anada), the deaf or hearing im paired (Hearing Ear Dogs of Canada) and the physi cally challenged (Special Skills Dogs of Canada). All programs are offered free of charge to clients and are funded by individuals, Lions Clubs, corporations and foundations. Welcome Home.
