Since acting and cooking are two of Rebecca's favorite things, she thinks combining the two is a great idea. But for now, she's making her mark with some seri ous and demanding roles. The Grade 7 New Central Public School student recently completed shooting her second made for T.V. show called Killer in the Box which re-enacts the tragic 1986 murder of Toronto's Alison Parrott. The episode is one in a series of Gemini nominated programs, Exhibit A: Secrets of Forensic Science, and airs on the Discovery Channel (Cogeco Cable 35) this Saturday at 7 p.m. It's easy to see why Rebecca, 12, won the haunting, starring role of Panrott in Killer in a Box. Her resemblance to the pretty, blonde track star is uncanny and casting directors chose her hands down. "I thought it would be scarier and creepy," she says softly, "I was scared a few days before we began shooting, but it wasn't like that. They made me feel comfort able." R ebecca Johnson In their wisdom, the producers chose not to reenact the actual murder and discovery of Alison's body. Instead, the scene fades out as 'Alison' and the photographer who lured her to Varsity Stadium walk into a wooded area. With the disturbing subject matter in mind, the film was made with the approval and permission of Rebecca's mother, Debbie, and Alison's mother, Lesley. Both were extremely involved with the project and always "on set." "It was very disturbing," Debbie admits. "I had a newspa per clipping of Alison on my desk at work and I couldn't get over how much Rebecca looks like her. She even has the same athlet ic physique. It was a relief when the script changed. It was tasteful ly done." This is not the first time Rebecca has taken on such a seri ous role. Her first film, a U.S. cable movie of the week, Locked in Silence starring Bonnie Bedelia and Bruce Davis, tells the true story of a young boy who witnesses a brutal murder and is traumatized and threatened into silence for eight years and eventu ally institutionalized. She played the role of his best friend, Beth Ann, who translated his sign lan guage for friends and teachers.
