It seems Rebecca didn't just fall into the acting field two and a half years ago. Her older sister, Melody at just 16, is a bit of a veteran o f the silver screen. The Oakville Trafalgar High School student has starred in a number of movies and plans to study acting as a career. In fact, hanging around on set with Melody gave Rebecca her first taste of acting. "Melody said 'put my sister to work' one day and I ended up as an extra in Coming Unglued starring Joely Fisher and Judge Reinhold. I like being behind the camera, but I don't like auditions all that much," she confesses. The occasional 'resistance' as her mom calls it, is based solely on the often tedious "call back" auditions when actors try out for the same role over and over again. The last minute nature of call backs and the travel ling time to Toronto requires stami na especially when they suddenly decide they want someone with dif ferent hair or eye colour. "I wish they could bring them to me," she bemoans jokingly while waving her arms in her parent's fam ily room. "They could have them right here." Not the typical stage mother, Debbie, who also has an older daughter, Tiffany, who used to dab ble in modeling, encourages her daughters to pursue acting as long as they're enjoying it. "It's nice to see them having pos itive experiences and as long as they want to do it, it's great," she says. "Every audition is a like a job inter view and they have to be able to accept a lot o f rejection, too. Only the strong survive this industry." So, what do Rebecca's friends at school think o f her star status? "They don't walk around saying 'my friend's a movie star' or any thing," she shrugs, "and I don't bring it up, but they sometimes ask me about it when I bring a script I'm studying to school." With a couple o f memorable roles behind her Rebecca is unsure how long she'll pursue acting. It's fun now, she says, but she also enjoys a great many things like playing with her pets - Kailua, her Chihuahua and her ferret, Sylvester. The former competitive dancer and gymnast has other talents as well like water-skiing, snowboarding, painting with pastels and o f course, cooking. "1 love to cook," grins the vege tarian whose specialties are Caesar salad and cheesecake. A cooking show, that's what I'd like."
