M att Torigian, T h u rsd ay 's arrest ends an around-theclock m anhunt and the atm osphere o f fear that per m eated the campus. "E veryone is relieved," he said. The 20-year old victim , a second-year science student from S au lt Ste. M arie, rem ains in the intensive care unit at the K -W H ealth C entre in K itchener w ith w hat police describe as nonlife-threatening injuries. W aterloo Regional Police Sgt. Pete R usso said the attack, which happened just before m idnight, was "unpro v o k ed ." T origian explained that this kind o f "stranger-on-stranger" crim e had everyone on edge and investigators w orking around the clock. The victim was walking along a w inding, m etre wide, gravel path that runs from C olum bia S treet to Bearinger Road in Waterloo. H e was approached by a man about half a kilom etre from Bearinger Road, ju st north o f a cam pus em er gency phone in the m iddle of a cornfield.
