2 Oakville Beaver Weekend Sunday October 17, 1999 Family of cancer survivors fights on Krystal and Debra Archer, 13-year-old twins, are cancer survivors. Debra, was diagnosed with lymphohaemangioma, which caused severe swelling o f her tongue, in 1988. Her first of nine surgeries was done in Michigan in May 1991. Her last was in March 1997. "Her tongue is pretty good," says mom Lori Archer, herself a cancer survivor. "It flares up once in a while but not anything like it used to." Archer was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 1994 which resulted in the removal o f one o f her breasts. "I was in remission for four years, and then my cancer came back. The breast cancer had spread into one o f my lungs." She had half o f a lung removed in April. Krystal, diagnosed with a m alignant brain tumour in 1992, underwent four surgeries. "She's been in remission for 6 1/2 years," says Archer. "She's done better than I have." Between her tw o bouts with cancer, Archer took over the organization o f the cruise nights at Trafalgar Village, which raises funds to grant a wish to a special child. As her result, Krystal and Debra can be seen among the vintage cars sporting new '50s-style poo dle skirts and jackets made by their mother. The New Golden Cruise has been held Saturday nights since May and will end Oct. 23rd, from 6 to 10 p.m. The shows have been averaging about 50 cars every Saturday night. A big show held Aug. 21st attracted 97 cars. This Saturday's finale also promises to be a big show. Money raised from the cruise nights goes to the Golden Griddle C hildren's Charities, which will be granting the wish.
