The free concert, which runs from 1 to 3 p.m., will be held at the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (QEPCCC). The theme this year is Seniors using Parang music activities for community engagement and inclusion and about a Caribbean Christmas. This year, the CCAH will be showcasing its Seniors' Parang J music activities for 2017 developed and run by seniors. Parang music, a traditional folk music art form of the Caribbean, is usually performed at Christmas and the New Year in many Caribbean islands. It is an opportunity for sharing culture and traditions. The music is accessible and easy to learn. CCAH seniors will also be reaching out to isolated seniors who are unable to participate due to mobility issues or restrictions with home visits. This year's guest performance will be by La Petite Musicale a professional Parang music group. The steelpan program builds upon the cultural legacy of the Caribbean Association and the Caribbean Community in Oakville and Halton Region. It also provides new opportunities to involve the community at large. The CCAH Steelpan Band will be performing live music Christmas Carols. La Petite Musicale's repertoire includes traditional Spanish and French folk songs, gospel, classical renditions, calypso and parang. To date, La Petite Musicale has produced two recorded collections of their repertoire, Caribfolk in 1977 followed by Through the Seasons in 1986.
