Organizers are offering a huge `Thank you' to the community following the success of the 25th an nual Oakville Professional Firefighters Association (OPFA) Holiday Toy Drive. The drive, which saw Oakville firefighters collect gifts, for those in hospital and needy children in the community, Nov. 1 to Dec. 18, resulted in toys and gifts being distributed to approximately 3,800 chil dren and youths in Oakville and Halton. "This year, the community, local organizations and businesses really stepped up and donated large amounts of gifts and gift cards allowing us to come closer than ever to meeting the need," said Oakville firefighter and toy drive organizer Kurt Merriman. Merriman said that while half of the toy drive' s do nations came from members of the public dropping off gifts at local fire stations, donations from busi nesses, community groups and even schools made up the other half. The OPFA works with 22 local charities that help children and youths throughout the year to determine who needs what.
