in si de ha lto n. co m O ak vi lle B ea ve r | T hu rs da y, M ay 3 ,2 01 8 | COMMUNITY Woman laces up to help fund 28 EVENTS Annual M S Walk runs May 6 Trina Morgan lives with multiple sclerosis and has been for the past 15 years. And that's no easy feat. Morgan, 47, has been af fected by temporary and per manent symptoms, including neuropathic pain, head aches, back trouble, drop foot, limping and severe fa tigue. What keeps the Oak ville woman pushing through this often-debilitat ing disorder is the hope that one day there w ill be a cure. While she isn't able to work or take part in activities with her kids as she used to, Morgan believes MS has al lowed her the opportunity to spend more time with them - more so than other working a cure parents. Her diagnosis has al so encouraged her to seize op portunities when they pre sent themselves, knocking a few items o ff her bucket list along the way. Morgan is a big supporter o f the MS Society. She and her fam ily participate in the MS Walk, which boosts im portant research that she hopes w ill one day lead to a cure. Participating in the walk has been an amazing experi ence for Morgan and her fam ily. She has seen her kids grow up alongside other fam ilies afflicted by MS. And ev ery year, she sees fam iliar faces - and new ones - come together for the cause. Over the past 14 years, Morgan has single-handedly raised $15,000 for the local chapter o f the society. To gether with her team, Trek king for Trina, they've raised for MS $20,400. While it is sometimes difficult to ask for financial support o f others, Morgan is impressed by people's gener osity. Morgan's fundraising suc cess is made possible thanks to her husband, Tyler, who is a champion for the cause and Trekking for Trina. He shares his wife's story - in person and online. But it's his personal touch, desire to make the MS Walk a fun event and a successful fund raising campaign that drive people to help the Oakville couple. Morgan and her family w ill be lacing up their sneak ers Sunday at Central West Specialized Development Services, located at 53 Bond St., for the annual MS Walk. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. followed by the walk at 9:30 a.m. The event wraps up around 1 p.m. About MS Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an auto-immune disease of the central nervous system. According to the MS Society of Canada, the disease attacks myelin, the protective covering of the nerves, causing inflammation that can damage the myelin. Canada has one of the highest rates of MS in the world, with an estimated one in every 340 Canadians living with the disease. The MS Society funds critical research that aims to not only cure the disease, but identify what causes it. It also earmarks funds toward the development of better treatments with less side effects.
