The fundraiser, which is being held in recognition o f Sexual Assault Preven­ tion Month and Mental Health Week, features Ca­ nadian musician Sean McCann - formerly o f the folk-rock band Great Big Sea. With a limited amount o f tickets still available, the library is encouraging lo­ cals to support their com­ munity by attending the event or by participating in the event's online auction, which opens on May 7 and runs until 11:59 p.m. on May 13. McCann frequently tours around the country to present audiences with his genuine life story about surviving abuse, battling addiction and becoming sober. Using a combination of music and anecdotes, McCann portrays the bat­ tles many individuals face and helps his audiences better understand the im­ portance o f mental health. tickets for library fundraiser Acting as a safe space for its community, OPL aims to introduce new ini­ tiatives to support those in need. Funds raised from the event w ill enable the li­ brary to develop and ex­ pand vital services. In addition, a portion of the proceeds raised from the event and online auc­ tion w ill be donated to the Sexual Assault & Violence Intervention Services of Halton to aid in their work o f helping survivors o f vio­ lence. The event's tax-deduct­ ible tickets are available to purchase through the OC- PA box office or website. V IP ticket-holders are in­ vited to attend an exclusive meet-and-greet reception and w ill receive a seat in the theatre's preferred viewing section. OPL has dozens o f items up for bid in its online auc- tion, such as handcrafted quilts, original paintings and authentic Chinese de­ cor. The online auction w ill be accessible and open to anyone, regardless of whether they are attend­ ing the event. C O M M U N ITY Bernstein on Broadway at church Walton United Church w ill celebrate Leonard Bernstein's 100th birthday with an upcoming concert. Led by music director Linda Fletcher and accom­ panist Janet King, Bern­ stein on Broadway and More w ill be held Sunday, May 6, at 7 p.m. Ensembles and soloists w ill perform excerpts from such classics as West Side Story, Peter Pan, Grease and Phantom of the Opera. The concert w ill include special guests Jack Buck- land and Vincent Perri, as well as former choir mem­ bers Emma Smith and Heather Spares. Proceeds from the con- cert w ill go toward the vari­ ous church and communi­ ty programs supported by Walton.
