NEWS Flynn seeking 5th term as Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn has been nominated to run for re­ election as the Ontario Lib­ eral candidate in the riding of Oakville. The Oakville Provincial Liberal Association made the nomination announce­ ment Monday, April 23 and Flynn accepted. "It has been an honour for me to serve the people of Oakville as MPP since 2003," said Flynn. "Together we have ac­ complished so much - the new world-class Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospi­ tal, the state o f the art Er- inoakKids Oakville facility, improved and expanded GO service, new schools and free prescription medi­ cation to Oakville residents under the age o f 25 and soon to those over 65, just to name a few." Flynn also referenced the province's transfer of Deerfield Golf Course and Fourteen Mile Creek con- servation lands to the Town o f Oakville to ensure the lands are not taken over by developers. Glen Abbey Golf Course was another subject Flynn touched on. "I am also extremely pleased that the determina­ tion of Glen Abbey's future w ill be made locally, now that provincial legislation has passed that replaces the Ontario Municipal Board with the new Local Planning Appeal Tribu­ nal," said Flynn. Flynn was first elected to the Ontario legislature in 2003. He has served as the minister of labour since 2014, directed updates to employment standards leg­ islation, including a $15 minimum wage. He has also served as minister o f community safety and correctional ser­ vices, as well as parliamen­ tary assistant to several ministers including trans­ portation, infrastructure, education, energy, labour, democratic renewal, and training, colleges and uni­ versities. He was previously a small-business owner and won six consecutive elec­ tions to serve as regional councillor for Oakville over 18 years. During that time Flynn worked to protect Oak­ ville's green space for fu­ ture generations-efforts that culminated in the cre­ ation o f the Glenorchy Con­ servation Area in North Oakville and earned him the Halton Conservation Award o f Excellence.
