AN ASSOCIATE OF Mayor's picnic June 29 The second annual M ayor's Picnic . and Street Dance will be held at the East Pier of the Bronte Harbor on June 29. Residents are invited to bring a picnic supper and look o v e r h a r b o r improvements and future plans. From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. there'll be a local talent program to be followed at 9 p.m. by a street dance f e a t u r i n g D e r e k Meredith's Quartet, who will be supplying good old country-western music until 1 a.m. Last year's event, which was sponsored by the Oakville Harbor Development Authority, drew nearly 1,000 people to the harbor. It was organized by Wynne Morgan, secretary of the committee, and Parks Superintendant, Bill Bateman. The affair was opened by Mayor Harry Barrett and Bob Jones, chairman of the Authority. Gord Reade, Ward Two councillor, took over as Master of Ceremonies, and hosted six hours of entertainment which featured the Oakville Citizens Band, the Oakville Portuguese Band, rock group Dunn and Satisfied, and the Mary Lou Bumby Dance Revue. The Ladies Auxiliary of the Bronte Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion helped make the event a success by providing lemonade, coffee and cookies during the picnic hours. Bobo the Hobo kept the children happy and at 9 p.m. Ontario St. was blocked off so that Derek Meredith's Quartet could cap the evening off with the Street Dance. H ydro changes po licy Ontario Hydro has made changes in its purchasing policy when acquiring land needed for h igh-vo l t age t r a n s mission line power c o r r i d o r s . Following meetings with representatives of the farming community including the Ontario F e d e r a t i o n of Agriculture, the National F am ers' Union, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food as well as the Ministry of Government Services, Hydro has approved a complete re examinat ion of the Corporation's policies w i th r e s p e c t to acquisition of rights of w ay a c r o s s f a r m properties. OPTION TO OWNERS One effect of the change will give owners the option of selling the property in question or granting an easement. Hydro will pay for the easement either in a lump sum or by an annual adjustable payment. The owner can choose the option he prefers. The policy of leasing back agricultural land to the former owner for the nominal sum of $1 an acre plus taxes will be continued. " Th ere has been s u b s t a n t i a l r e p r e sentation by farmers for a choice of options in granting property rights to Hydro for a variety of r e a s o n s s u ch as escalating land prices, retention of a viable land unit, collateral for low i n t e r e s t f a r m improvement loans, and the inherent reluctance to change the character of the family farm," said Neil McMurtrie, Ontario Hydro's Director of Property. "On all future projects, expropriation procedures will apply generally when authorization has been received for an expansion project from public participation and ther hearings," he said. Mr. McMurtrie said, " this will help to ensure that purchasing and compensation formulas are more than fair to the people af fec ted by H y d r o 's e s s e n t i a l expansion programs." EXPROPRIATION The Expropriation Act is designed by the government to safeguard individual p ro pe r t y owners' rights, he said. Under its provisions every owner is placed on the same footing and is assured of fair and equal consideration regarding compensation. Tra fa lg a r Concourse, W h ite Oaks Btvd., O akv ille , Ont.
