- Description
- 3266 South Service Road in Oakville, Ontario is west of Bronte Creek, on McPherson Road just south of the Queen Elizabeth Way, empty land in 2020.
Parks Canada photographs are of a barn that had been converted into a house. At the time of photographing, Mr. MacPherson was living there.
In the 1988 Bowers street directory, the address is coded as "NP" which meant there was no person living there.
Some of the photos of this property are very dark, therefore I have lightened and sharpened as best possible with today's computer tools. A SLR (single lens reflex) film camera was used for the photographing in this Parks Canada project. Therefore, the photographer had to know how to adjust the camera for the light, for the speed and type of the film used, and for clear focussing of the image by the lens used. They had to hold themselves still while taking the photo. As well, the photographer had to have an "eye" for the "framing" of the scene. Then, in the developing of the film in the dark room, care had to be taken to do each step properly. Not easy steps for the average person to acheive properly.
It is possible to lighten images that are too dark but images that are blasted out by light cannot be amended.

- In December 1971, January 1972, Parks Canada photographed those buildings that were 100 or more years old. This Canadian Inventory of Heritage Buildings was a Centennial Project.
The Trafalgar Township Historical Society has worked with Parks Canada and Library and Archives Canada to find the photographs taken in the Trafalgar Township and Town of Oakville areas. The collection will grow as we have time to collect and prepare the images.
The TTHS is also sending the images to the Town of Oakville Heritage Planners to increase local availability and to ensure local preservation.
Each TTHS internet record will show the back of the identifying information card first. This is to prevent any errors in reading the handwritten address held up on a clipboard for each address - we have noted that sometimes the address number is illegible or incorrect.
At the top of each TTHS record, you will find "pages" to click on to view the various photographs.
All TTHS records in this collection can be found in one step by clicking on the "Groups" link on the right of your screen, "Parks Canada. Canadian Inventory of Heritage Buildings, 1970-1972. Trafalgar Township & Oakville." - Inscriptions
