Both Grade 11 students were successful in their bid to be elected to the role in late April through a new electronic voting process. Clark is a Nelson High School student in Burling- ton and Meng attends Oak- ville's White Oaks Second- ary School. The term for current student trustees Muqtasid Mansoor and Dasha Met- ropolitansky ends July 31, while the incoming stu- dent trustees' term of office officially begins on August 1. "I wanted to become stu- dent trustee because I be- lieve that they have the power to inspire change and reform within the stu- dent body," said Clark. "The Board is shaping pol- icies for students to ensure they are receiving the re- sources required to be suc- cessful. It's crucial for stu- dents to be able to provide feedback and recommen-feedback and recommen-f dations to the Board so stu- dents' concerns, comments and questions are properly represented." Said Meng, "I think it is important for students to have a voice at the Board table because students are an important source of in- formation for the Boardformation for the Boardf administration. As stu- dents, we experience first- hand the implementation of new policies, regula- tions and programs. In or- der to have a balance be- tween the desires of stu- dents and the Board, I be- lieve a student trustee should be a part of Board decision-making." As a student trustee, Clark said his goals in- clude expanding the role of the Student Senate and en- suring student well-being. For Meng, he's focused on expanding mental health initiatives and increasing the availability of special- ized education such as In- ternational Baccalaureate and Specialized High School Major programs.
