No. 897106845RR0001 With no record label and no ma- jor radio play, Oakville country/ rock artist Anthony Tullo is truly a Cinderella story. He made the top five of the Coun- try Music Association of Ontario (CMAO) Male Artist of the Year 2018 - the largest country awards next to the Canadian Country Music Associ- ation Awards. The awards were handed out ear- lier this month at London's Centen- nial Hall Theatre, featuring a gala red carpet awards ceremony. Tullo, 48, calls himself the under- dog when it comes to his music ca- reer and despite spending nearly all his life pursuing his dream he is only just beginning to see the results. This latest nomination is "huge", he said. "It was a very exciting night and I got the star treatment - getting all dressed up and the whole red car- pet for those few hours. The acco- lades were appreciated." He said to make the top five is re- markable and "a heck of an honour. There's a lot of artists and you need a lot of votes." Although he didn't win the catego- ry, he's still grateful to make the top five.five.f Still, Tullo, who writes nearly all of his own music with the exception of a few songs, wants to have his mu- sic heard around the world, so to pur- sue that avenue, he's heading to Po- land. Through his bass player, he was connected with Igor Jaszczuk, who he says is "involved with every single aspect of music in Poland." Tullo believes this might be the break he needs. "When he heard my music, he couldn't believe it," Tullo said. "He said 'who is this guy? Is he on major radio?'" He pulled some strings, and now the St. Ignatius of Loyola secondary school graduate is heading to the 2019 Sopot Music Festival, which is an an- nual international music event. Tullo, who's newly married, said Poland holds two times the music festivals than here, attended byfestivals than here, attended byf 50,000 or more people. Tullo said he enjoys the music of John Mellencamp and Bryan Ad- ams. Earlier this year he was named Artist of the Month by CMAO. Another bonus for Tullo, who's been working on his music since his teens. Last year, he released his album Rebel, a 10-track album, with song ti- tles like Gasoline, Shotgun Ready and the title track Rebel. He's also found success in show- biz. His career has seen him as an ac- tor, director and screenwriter. Music is his passion however, and Tullo has no goals for anything other than singing. To that end, he's also the headlin- er next year at the largest country music festival in eastern Europe: Piknik Country Festival. Locally, he's playing at the Steam Era in Milton on Labour Day week- end and at Le Dome Banquet Hall in Oakville on Oct. 5. He'll be on Morn- ing Live on CHCH television on Sept. 27, at 9 a.m. To learn more, go to anthonytullo- .ca.
