Peter Watson MBA, CFP, R.F.P., CIM, FCSI Jennifer Watson B.A. Oakville North-Burlington MPP Effie Triantafilopoulos has been named parliamentary assis- tant to the health and long-term care portfolio. The announcement was made over the weekend, after Ontario Premier Doug Ford's government officially took office Friday, June 29 and named his cabinet, which included Christine Elliott as min- ister of health and long-term care. Triantafilopoulos' responsibili- ties will focus on long-term care "Long-term care was a critical commitment and it means so much to our riding and the prov- ince. It's an honour to be chosen for this role," she said. "I look forward to working with Christine Elliott, our new minister of health and long-term care; an experienced, capable minister who all Ontarians can count on." Among the Ontario PC's elec- tion promises was a commitment to end what the party called "hall- way health care" by creating 15,000 new long-term care beds over the next five years and 30,000 beds within the decade. As parliamentary assistant, Triantafilopoulos will work with Elliot on the provincial govern- ment's new long-term care policy. "Hallway health care will come to an end." she said. "For too long our front-line health care workers have been sounding the alarm. More long-term care ca- pacity is needed to free hospital space and resources to focus on urgent-care needs," Triantafilo- poulos continued. "As always, my first priority will be to the people I represent as MPP for Oakville North-Burling- ton. Long-term care is an impor- tant issue for this riding as we even have reports of capacity issues at the new Oakville Trafalgar (Me- morial) Hospital," she added. Oakville North-Burlington was a newly created provincial riding in the 2018 election.
