Halton's former public works manager Nicolas Rewa, 55, was found guilty of defrauding the region of approximately $770,000 through falsely awarding service con- tracts to Hamilton-based company Sirron Systems Inc. According to court documents, Rewa used the money obtained to purchase a house, among other items, and later transferred the owner- ship of the property into his wife's name in an at- tempt to conceal the source of the funds. Rewa was charged in April 2017 with two counts each of fraud over $5,000, municipal corrup- tion and secret commis- sions, one count of laun- dering proceeds of crime and one count of property obtained by crime. Stoney Creek resident David Norris, 52, of Sirron Systems Inc., was also charged with two counts each of fraud over $5,000, municipal corruption and secret commissions, as well as laundering pro- ceeds of crime and prop- erty obtained by crime. Norris' case is still on- going. Charges initially laid against Rewa's wife Mari- on have been dropped. Nicolas Rewa was sen- tenced on July 16. File photo by Graham Paine CRIME Three Oakville residents - including a male teen - have been arrested in connection with an evening break-and- enter spree. Last Wednesday night, Sept. 19, Halton police were called to the area of Pilgrims Way and Glen Abbey Gate inWay and Glen Abbey Gate inW response to reports of three suspicious individuals. Officers attended the ar- ea and reportedly located two men and a male teen. While the responding offi- cers spoke with the three, po- lice began receiving reports of several break-ins and at- tempted break-ins that oc- curred in the surrounding neighbourhood. The suspects are alleged to have committed break-ins to residences on Greendale Trail and Monks Passage. They are also alleged to have attempted to break into two garages on Pilgrims Way. No altercation or injuries occurred during any of the entries. The three suspects were arrested and transported to the Oakville police station where they were later re- leased on promises to appear and undertaking. Daniel Wojtuszewski, 21, of Oakville was charged with two counts of breaking and entering and two counts of attempting to break and enter. Jean Trikhin, 19, of Oak- ville was charged with two counts of breaking and en- tering and two counts of at- tempting to break and enter. Police say their investiga- tion into recent break-ins is ongoing. They are remind- ing the public to ensure their vehicles and homes (includ- ing garages) are secured at all times.
