"My global experiences have brought me a love for travel and have taught me so many amazing lessons that I would never have received in the classroom," said grade 12 student Corissa Larson. "These experiences have taught me what it means to be a global citizen and have inspired me to be- come actively engaged in any way that I can to help make the world a better place." Appleby's commitment to global learning is not new. Building on its strengths of experiential edu- cation, including outdoor education and boarding, the school has a long tradition of nurturing global awareness and understanding. In 1992 Appleby became a member of Round Square - a world- wide association of more than 180 schools whose students share a strong commitment to academic excellence, personal development and responsibil- ity. Appleby's commitment to global citizenship was further enhanced in 2005 with the introduction of its own International Service Learning and Intercul- tural programmes. Today, more than 230 students and faculty annually participate in service learning projects, community partnerships and immersive intercultural learning throughout the globe includ- ing diverse national perspectives such as visiting the Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation in Nelson House, Manitoba to develop a better understanding and awareness of issues facing Indigenous Canadians. In 2011 Appleby launched the Appleby College Diploma with Distinction in Global Leadership, the first truly integrated global education programme offered by a North American boarding school. Appleby College: Leading the way in global education In December, six Appleby students and two faculty members travelled to Morocco for a Global Experiential trip. The group participated in Arabic lessons, cooking classes and visited various cultural and historical landmarks in Rabat, Marrakech and Casa- blanca. Students also visited a community Centre in Rabat where they took part in painting and gardening projects, and organized games to play with the local children.
