The final days of the Trump presidency were so bizarre that had they not been happening with the whole world watching, it would be hard to believe that anarchy incited by a sit- ting president was possible. It started four years ago when Trump became presi- dent. His main form of com- munication was via Twitter. The world intensely fol- lowed his tweets, truthful or not. After the election, there was a progression of inten- sity and seriousness of Trump's allegation, without supporting evidence, that the election had been stolen from him as a result of voter fraud orchestrated by the opposition. Then on Jan. 6, the un- thinkable happened. Trump fanned the boiling hostility of his followers to such a de- gree, they marched on the U.S. Capitol that houses the Congress and the Senate. The angry mob took con- trol and occupied the Capi- tol for several hours. This is the point where the line was crossed. This is the point that will impact freedom of speech going forward. Days later, Trump was impeached for the second time in just over a year. Con- gress ruled against him for inciting an insurrection. Social media also ruled against him. Trump's online presence was halted. The president had gone too far. Stage 1: Social media gi- ants censored the president.
