Amazon officials in- formed Ward 3 Councillor Janet Haslett-Theall, and by extension town coun- cil, that they decided not to lease the Cornwall Road property. They will instead locate the facility in the Southdown heavy industry area in Missis- sauga on Avonhead Road. Councillor Dave Git- tings, also of Ward 3, and the Joshua Creek Resi- dents' Association, as well other concerned citi- zens, provided feedback on the project and was what made Amazon de- cide to pull out. "For the past 18 months, Councillor Has- lett-Theall and I have been keeping our resi- dents up-to-date and aware of the H&R- Ama- zon application at 2175 Cornwall Road," said Git- tings in a press release. "After a full process, we are pleased that a more suitable location was se- cured nearby." Haslett-Theall said it was "gratifying to hear that Amazon respected and listened to our com- munity." Mayor Rob Burton add- ed: "Amazon's consider- ation of council's and the community's concerns is appreciated." He praised the Government of Onta- rio's "assistance" with "capping future uses of the site" which will "prove important in the future, whether or not Amazon is involved."
