The body of Daniel Hoffman, 31, was lo- cated shortly after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13 at an address near Harbour and York streets in downtown Toronto, police said. He is Toronto's 21st homicide victim of 2022. With the help of the Niagara Regional Police Service, three people have been ar- rested in this homicide investigation, To- ronto Police said Friday. Oakville resident Adriana Desario, 20, Toronto resident Niki Kirimi, 18, and To- ronto resident Dawson Aguilera Jimenez, 22, have each been charged with second- degree murder. Toronto Police Service photo A 34-year-old Mississauga man is facing fraud-related charges in connection with an alleged romance scam that reportedly swin- dled multiple victims across Canada, in- cluding one in Oakville. The Halton Police Regional Fraud Unit began an investigation into an alleged on- line dating scam in January 2019 after an Oakville resident came forward and claimed they had been defrauded of approx- imately $70,000. The lengthy investigation that followed resulted in the identification of several oth- er alleged victims across the country as well as a suspect. Police said contact with the alleged vic- tims would be initiated and maintained through email and text, at which point their trust would be gained and they were con- vinced to transfer funds. In total, the alleged victims reported los- ing $370,000. It's alleged the scam targeted older adults. On March 17, Halton police executed a search warrant at an apartment unit in Mis- sissauga and made one arrest. A 34-year-old Mississauga man has been charged with six counts of fraud over $5,000. He will appear in court at a later date. None of the charges have been proven in court.
