The date g was decided [lf upon asi June 12 and the price as $3.00 per couple, Mr. Hunt- er Reid sat in our meet- ing and we hope he was not shocked by the informality with which Wwe conduct proceedings. Per- haps group conversations would suggest disinterest, but in real- ity, it is these small groups that come through with ideas without involving the time of everyone, and it is only when the idea has been worked out to their indivi- dual satisfaction that it is pre- sented to the whole committee for approval, thus furnishing more and better ideas in a short- er length of time. Sunday found Marion Litchfield and Joan Thornton amid a color- ful surrounding of paint pots, brushes and semi-completed illus- trations that will result in the attractive posters yowll soon see about town, giving you all the de- tails. Reservations are in order, and although you may feel that almost a month is plenty of time, T'd advise you to start thinking about it now, and make plans for a twosome or party in plenty of time to insure attendance. The entertainment and refresh- ments to be served have already Deen placed in capable hands. Jack Osborne offered to look af- ter the decorations and it should be very interesting to see what type of scheme the masculine mind can contrive, We hope that Mother Nature will approve of the idea and be on hand to give us full, support in making our flower formal a big success. EXPORTS TO EIRE Although exchange difficulties hampered Canada's trade with Eire, goods to the valle of $17,- 189,552 were shipped to that country in the first 11 months of 1947. The principal agricultural exports were wheat flour valued at $7,709,329, oats, oatmeal and prepared cereal foods. Peas for seed--which are highly regarded in Bire--vegetable seeds and red clover seed were supplied, and showed signs of steady and con- tinuing trade. _ | By Bruce Squires Last Thursday and Friday night seemed to be the most im- portant phase for Teen Town in the 1847-48 season. After three or four weeks of very hard prac- ticing on the part of everyone, our Teen Town plays were the best ever, and everyone had a really swell time preparing for those two important ngihts,. On Thursday night the hall was. ra- ther empty but the crowdedness of the following night more than made up for the previous empti- ness. The show began with the bobby sox brigade, in which Lee Davis so ably played the leading role. 'Next came a ballet by Dor- een Broadbent and a sword dance by Joan Hunt. Last of all came the play "Romance is a Racket." Many thanks go to all those who helped to make the plays a Success., They are: Sheila Wil- son, manager; the cast of the bobby sox brigade, Lee Davis] Betty McFaul, Bruce Smith, Bill Hall, Sally Davis, Barb Ross and the directors, Mr. Carpenter and Dave Lynch;- the cast of "Ro- mance is a Racket: Marnie Ire- land, Valerie Robinson, Beth Mac- Taggart, Rina Grief, Mike Dyer, Tom Sale, Dave Farley, and the NG CANADIAN SHORTAGE British Columbia fishermen fear a lot of their catch is going to cross the border now that they can export frozen salmon to the United States, according to Can- adian Grocer. "Ottawa has been finding. it tough to correct the situation caused by reduction of United States tariff against the Canadian raw fish," the busi- ness paper said, "Thus, the problems of B.C. canners remain unsettled. The United States agreed to admit it on 3 cent a pound duty basis against 23; cents formerly. Since packers there have been obtain ing about 25 per cent more for their product than B.C, canners, they can afford to pay more for their raw material. 3 "Some kinds of raw salmon cannot be sent south, but all the fishermen have, to do is. freeze any of them and they may cross the border. 'Until the situation is correct- ed there may be a shortage.' LUMBER AND PLANING MILL BUILDERS' SUPPLIES Special attention for the needs of the man who likes to do his own work Charles F. After the plays on Friday night Mayor Hutchinson presented gifts to the directors and Sheila Wil- son, from Teen Town and the casts. After that the chairs were removed from the hall and danc- ing commenced. See you next week. = MEN'S SUITS COST MORE, SHIRTS TO BE SCARCER A combination of import re- strictions on U.S. textiles and continually rising prices in cot- ton and worsted goods from the United Kingdom are blamed by General Merchant of Canada for still higher price prospects in men's suits and in shirts, pyjam- as, shorts and all types of cotton clothing. It is quite probable, too, General Merchant predicts, that cotton items will continue to get 'scarcer. Canadian importers say the wool market is sky-rocketing again, after a break in March; and, in the case of s@iitings, new wage agreements to be megotiat- ed this summer will be an addi- tional factor pushing prices up higher later this year, the busi- ness paper reports, -Your Doctor's Orders . ..
