The Oakville Fire De- partment -- in partner- ship with the Towns of Halton Hills and Milton, and City of Burlington -- is inviting applications from Halton-based young women 15-18 years of age to participate in a career camp to explore a future in the fire services-be- yond fire suppression. "Blaze Fire Academy is about inspiring partici- pants to reimagine their fu- ture and embrace the fire services," said Oakville Fire Chief Paul Boisson- neault. "As trailblazers that in- novate, lead and serve the community with excel- lence, there are many op- portunities to grow in the fire service, and this par- ticular camp is dedicated to young women exploring their potential." Registration for Blaze Fire Academy (formerly Camp Molly) is open until Friday, July 8 to select 24 participants to attend the camp Aug. 10 and 11 at the Fire Training Campus in Oakville. Town of Oakville staff said this annual regional fire camp has been en- hanced with more immer- sive and inspirational training components. In addition to covering various hands-on aspects of the fire service, this year the camp will also include a Q&A session with senior fire services leaders in Hal- ton, and a career informa- tion session with post-sec- ondary institutions. The two-day camp will teach participants about a number of fire response functions such as hazard- ous material response, search and rescue opera- tions, auto extrication res- cues, rope rescue, forcible entry procedures, water rescue and more. Strategic and tactical aspects of fire response support such as fire inves- tigation, communications, public education, fire pre- vention are also included.
