- Notes
- Magdalen College, beside the River Cherwell, was founded in 1458 by William of Waynflete, Bishop of Winchester. The large, square Magdalen Tower is a famous Oxford landmark, and there is a tradition since the days of King Henry VII that the college choir sings from the top of it at 6 a.m. on May Morning.

Oxford, Aug. 1/10
We like Oxford very much. Walked this morning almost steadily for 3 1/2 hrs. I was tired and sick of Colleges. We go to Leamington to-night and to-morrow to Warwick, Kenilworth & Stratford. On Wed. H & I go to Scotland & the school marms to their lectures at York.
