- Printed on the reverse: "Buckingham Palace stands at the end of the beautiful processional avenue known as the Mall. The Palace, the London residence of the Sovereign, is a massive and imposing building of quadrangular shape, erected on the site of old Buckingham House, which was built in 1703, and rebuilt and enlarged by Nash in 1825-7."
On 4 August 1914, Britain declared war on the German Empire. One month later the steam ship Tunisian made her last voyage for the Allan Line from Liverpool to Quebec and Montreal, as she was taken over by the British government.
