(Photo by Peter McCusker) Tocca Finita reâ€"opens as larger store with New York style look By CHERYL ELLIOT Special to the Beaver Anna Westlake started with high style accessories when she opened her downtown business Tocca Finita â€" that‘s Italian for "finishing touches." Five years later, her premises at Lakeshore Rd. E. and Reynolds St. have more than doubled in size, and as Westlake puts it, "now you can be outfitted from head to ankle â€" I don‘t have shoes." Tocca Finita reâ€"opened two weeks ago with a brand new look from its facade to its clothes racks. "It was customer demand that resulted in this expansion," said Westlake. "Customers liked the shop, but wanted more of it." Retail businesses in the downâ€" town core have come and gone durâ€" ing the recent recession, but Tocca Finita survived thanks to Westlake‘s "sheer determination" and furtherâ€" more, Westlake watched her busiâ€" ness turn a steady profit over the last two years. "I‘m looking at being here for the long term," she said, "and my planning and forecasting showed a need for Tocca Finita in Oakville, so I have moved forward." Westlake knew "the look and feeling" she wanted in a new Tocca Finita, and hired a designer to help her achieve this goal. She al ~ enlisted one of her brothers, Tony Rea, a contractor, to co-ordinate! supervise the construction whi was all done by local artisans. LOOK OF MARBLE The idea for the facade came from one of Westlake‘s buying trips. She saw a similar style in New York which she felt would work well in an Oakville setting. The facade is made of cement and fibreglass to give "a look of marâ€" ble." The new interior, a raised open space with grey walls, charcoal carâ€" pets and black accents anchored by a large, black counter, acts as a canâ€" vas for Westlake‘s merchandise. For spring, Tocca Finita features clothing lines by Anne Klein II, Lida Baday, Andra Jovine and Ellen Tracy. "This season, neutral tones with splashes of color such as mango and seaweed are fashion," said Westlake. "Natural fabrics from wool to linen and chambray are popular, and styles are soft and fluid." Both wide and narrow pants are stylish this spring. Vests are making a comeback, as are long skirts for daytime and there will be "lots of slits for easy movement," she added. The store is also stocked with its original staples, the latest fashion in hats, sunglasses and jewellery from Europe, the United States and Canada. Martha Sturdy, Karen Palmer, Anne Klein and Mar Goha are some of the jewellery collecâ€" tions found at Tocca Finita. i ‘"Women are not wearing hat$ enough in the daytime," said Westlake. "We will see more hats worn especially for protection from the sun." % "Windows reflect how creative it is inside," said Westlake. "If you see a wellâ€"putâ€"togerher window disâ€" play, then you can be sure the peoâ€" ple inside know what they are doing." "I love what I do and it shows," added Westlake. "Customers feel good about coming into Tocca Finita." I "Our clients are fashion forward and well informed about the latest trends," said Westlake. "These clients see things here that are not in other local stores." * Right now she‘s in the middle of buying for fall and says lots of greens, navy, and a new color, eggâ€" plant will be in fashion. She adds there are also neutrals along with "dijon" and cherry and the autumn look is plenty of layering. % Westlake‘s upbeat personality and stylish appearance is firmly implanted in her store. She takes care of every detail including decorating her windows with the help of another brother Frank Rea, owner of the Forgetâ€"Meâ€" Not Flowers shop next door on Reynolds St. I LONG HOURS a Westlake puts in 60â€" to 70â€"hour weeks to keep her operation runi} ning. She employs one fullâ€"time and four partâ€"time sales staff and all have been with her a long time. _: This hardâ€"working owner does all her store‘s buying and credits her success to seeking out lines excluâ€" sive to Oakville. 4 MAURIA CLINIC OF ELECTROLYSIS MAUREEN SCOTT Please call for an appointment Expires Apn;'i;w1 4/93 Eyebrows arched and shaped Hairline permanently contoured Facial hair removed Bikini line shaped Arms, Chest & Backhair removed 329 Lakeshore Rd.
