Every year when the new models come out, I get excited about the next car I‘m going to have and I‘ve had many," said 55â€"yearâ€"old Len Sanci, owner of Oakâ€"Land Lincoln Mercury, from Florida earlier this week. Et began with a love of cars, the age old Oakâ€"Land Mercury wins top Ford prize Sanci was recently named one of 35 Lincoln Mercury dealers from across Canada to win the Ford "Inner Circle" 1993 Chairman‘s Award. Presently vacationing in Florida, Sanci was onâ€"hand just days after his birthday to officially receive the prestigious award during a fourâ€"day trip to Scotsdale, Arizona. Bob Rewey, viceâ€"president of North American products with Ford worldwide out of Detroit, Michigan, presented the awards March 25th. "It‘s the highest award you can receive from the Ford Motor Company. It makes me very, very proud," said Sanci who has won the award seven out of the 10 years it‘s been in existence. Sanci said there‘s only one dealer in Canada who has won the award eight of the 10 years. Oakâ€"Land Lincoln Mercury proudly displays the seven other Chairman‘s Awards it has received over the past years in its showroom at 570 Trafalgar Rd. However Sanci is also quick to note it‘s a "dealership" award, not a "personal" award. "We work hard, It‘s a dealership award. I being the dealer am the one who gets it but getting customer satisfaction right takes all of the dealership working together said Sanci. Employing approximately 100 people at the 570 Trafalgar Road (near the QEW) dealership, Oakâ€"Land Lincoln Mercury has grown over the years that Sanci‘s been at its helm. "It‘s hard to pinpoint an individual reason for this year‘s sales record in the resale market," he says. §*T suspect it‘s the result of a combination of factors: unseasonably bad weather, price reductions by builders anxious to move their properties, and a quiet part of the consumer conscience that says ‘let‘s not buy just yet!‘ "We may not see a major increase in activity until people start believing the market has started to climb again ... and no one can predict when that might be," Weima says. In the meantime, Weima points out that sales have actually been climbing steadily all year. The dollar Dealership no stranger to "Inner Circle" award _ When he first bought it, the dealership had 32 employees. Oakâ€"Land Lincoln Mercury began on Lakeshore Road under the leadership of a man named John Thompson, said Sanci. "Those weren‘t good days and Thompson was gone by 1969," he said. For his part, Sanci began in the used car business working for his brother, Bill, in Toronto. In 1960, Sanci began working for a new car General Motors dealer, A.D. Gories Chevrolet, in Toronto. In 1963, Sanci made the move to Hogan Pontiac in Toronto and in . March 1964, he went to Church Motors, a Ford dealership in High Park. After six years there, Sanci was looking for his own dealership and when Oakâ€"Land Lincoln Mercury was available, he took it. On January, 2nd, 1970, Sanci began his new operation in Oakville, "and I‘ve stayed there ever since." Sanci_was already married with three children when he made the move to Oakville and today, two of his three children are in the business with him. Although Sanci‘s eldest son, Dan, is a Toronto lawyer, his son Dave is the Red Carpet Lease Manager at Oakâ€"Land Lincoln Mercury while his daughter, Cathy, manages accounts receivable. Customer satisfaction is where it‘s at for Sanci, and that could explain why he‘s won the prestigious Chairman‘s Award, which is based on customer satisfaction, seven out of ten years. The road to being among the 35 dealers across Canada to have the award bestowed on them is a twoâ€"step process with a strong $169,747. "I‘ve been in the real estate business for 20 years and I‘ve never seen a better time to buy," Weima adds, "Interest rates are very low, house prices are very reasonable, and there is plenty of choice available for prospective purchasers of homes in the Oakville, Milton and Acton areas." In the past, the real estate market in this country has always been characterized by periods of intense activity and slower sales, and "we‘ve obviously moved into a period of slower sales," Weima says. «"Conditions are bound to improve eventually."
