Dunham, personal loans manager with the Bank of Montreal in Toronto, has volunteered with the Halton Lung Association since 1988, when she joined the board of directors as a memberâ€"atâ€"large. She became involved with fundraising. The following year she was named chair of the fundraising committee and Bingo captain. Dunham was instrumental with two new fundraisers, the ‘Anything Goes‘ Auction and the ‘Breath of Spring‘ fashion show. nine e . Peace Centre selling toilet watersaver dams "In a household of four persons each flushing four times a day, you will save close to 40 cents a week or $19.60 a year. At $15 each, the Centre has some 400 of the units left after selling "quite a few." For more information, call Millard at 845â€"3320. The Oakville Community Centre for Peace, Ecology & Human Rights is bent on installing "toilet watersaver tanks dams" in every residential and commercial toilet in Oakville. Its spokesperson, Eric Jensen, says Oakville residents can conserve water and money at the same time. The average toilet uses 22 litres of water every time it‘s flushed, he said, and the watersaver saves about 10 litres. The next meeting of the Halton Child Care Providers Association takes place Thursday, July 8th at 7:30 p.m. at the Women‘s Information and Support Centre, second floor at Hopedale Mall on Rebecca Street. All interested parents are welcome. "We had a heavy mortgage but they don‘t consider the debt load as against your income," she said. "After paying for day care, it just wasn‘t worth my while going out to work." There‘s a place that‘s out to get you from flushing your money down the toilet along with the water. A study conducted by the Region of Halton five years ago concludéd that over 10,000 children aged 0 to:5 were in private day care. Millard was sure that figure would be greater now. Most of them would be mothers themselves who are looking after a maximum of five children from other homes, she said. Although subsidized day care is available through the region, Millard pointed out that some people fall between the cracks â€" as she did. The mother of four got into the business after she quit her job because the combined salaries of her and her husâ€" band, Ken, were too high to qualify her for subsidized day care. Today, she looks after her own two preâ€"school children in her North Oakville home as well as two more from other homes. New child Millard said the group has the supâ€" port of the province‘s Ministry of Community and Social Services, Halton region and the Halton Children‘s Council. y To Michelle Millard, looking after other people‘s children is a tough and demanding job, one that private child care providers take very seriously. That‘s why she and Wendy Kikeby started a new association for them. The Halton Child Care Providers Association, patterned on the 4,000â€" member Ottawaâ€"based group institutâ€" ed in 1981, aims to give private child care providers a sense of belonging and respect for what they do, said "Once we‘re incorporated, we hope to get provincial government funding to set up workshops and semâ€" inars that will offer courses in such topics as Baby CPR and child psyâ€" chology," she said. "We don‘t know yet whether we‘ll charge for them but we will charge an annual $20 for membership." â€" care group in Halton Call the centre at 849â€"5501. July 7, 1993
