After s . swimming down the gorge and through a naturally formed underwater tunnel, we went back around the coastline for our last evening of shore leave before setting sail for North America the following morning. Amongst the wonderful variety of animal species for which the Galapagos Islands are famous, we saw marine iguanas, flamingos, blueâ€"footed boobies, pelicans and sally lightfoot crabs, to identify a few. After leaving the "island of seals" we returned to the main island where we motored through narrow sea channels to see the indigenous plant and animal life. Dear Oakville: the entire voyage, including the Caribbean. However, the most wonderful experience of this dive was the seals. The seals of this island were quite large, averaging at least 5â€"6 feet long. They were swimming all around us, under us, over us, brushing past us. One charged right at me, swerving aside at the last minute. Another nipped one of my cabinmate‘s flippers, but they were only playing with us. They looked so beautiful and graceful as they played in the surf and around the coral of the sea undemneath. It was an amazing experience, which I cannot quite put into words. It was a special moment in our voyage of exploration, and one which will stay in my memory forever, Our first stop was at a tiny islet off the coast of Santa Cruz. Here we anchored and went snorkeling. I saw many large, brilliantly coloured tropical fish. There were hundreds of them. Live, unpolluted coral grew in every shape imaginable. For underwater scenery and variety of marine life, this field trip was equal to the very best of our snorkeling over y ue Mc e Oe 0 t Early one morning during our visit to the Galapagos Islands, we set out in a chartered fleet of small motor boats to tour the island of Santa Cruz. The sea was very choppy and we soon got soaked with spray, but we hardly noticed. This day turned out to be the highlight of our Galapagos visit.
