Turner said the government is already working *hand in glove" with police departments about missâ€" ing children and was on hand to demonstrate some of the latest technology involved in locating abducted children. ‘"We have to maintain the confidentiality and the integrity of personal government records. We just can‘t hand them over to the police," he commented. ‘‘For one thing, the Income Tax Act prohibits this (dipping into confidential files). And for another, I don‘t think we should," said Turner to reporters outâ€" side the conference. Child Find Ontario estimates 84% of all missing children are attributed to parental abductors. "It is, right now, as we look at our 10th anniversary ... the most significant changes have been in the rate of parental abductions," said Snider. "And if we recover just one child, it‘s been cess," he commented to reporters later. More than 200 abducted children have been recovered since the program began seven years ago. As well, the government sponsors a Missing Treasures program and uses the Primary Automated Lookout System (PALS) in all airports. "As a result of Project Return, 3,600 Revenue Canada inspectors are on full alert," he said, adding they also work closely with Child Find Ontario and Operation Go Home. "Inspectors have all the information about that child at their fingertips," said Turner, who says the government believes in "border proofing" kids. He called the problem of missing children "extremely perilous" and said the problem is reachâ€" ing endemic proportions. "We all feel a sense of shared responsibility for any missing child," he said.
