Would you like to see a minority federal governmefi It is encouraging to note that the corporate sector has come through with not only financial pledges of support but also with personnel who will work on the campaign full time until its conclusion in late November. This year six such indiâ€" viduals will be helping out and their employers, Royal Bank, SmithKline Beecham Pharma, Scotiabank, Monenco Agra, Bell Canada and Sheridan College deserve a lot of credit for their support. With I most of their member agencies facing funding shortfalls from governments at all levels, the United Way has taken up the challenge. They have set a $1.9â€" million target for this year, an whopping 14.5% increase over last year. _ The United Way has a long way to go to make its goal but it can be achieved if we all give a little. Having said that, this would be enough time for McKenna to further increase his profile across the nation. As a young politician in a biâ€"lingual province and with an alreadyâ€"impressive track record, McKenna would be the kind of heirâ€"apparent the Tories had when Brian Mulroney emerged to demolish Liberal leader John Turner at the polls. You could hear a pin drop during McKenna‘s noteless speech and one couldn‘t hclp but wonder how many of those present were w15h1ng the New Brunswick preâ€" mier was their leader this time out. But his time is coming...count on it. But the Liberal leader is pushing 60 years of age and has been through many political wars. If he does win the coming election and form what may be a minority government, his term of office will be very taxing and it‘s not beyond the realm of possibility that Chretien would be a oneâ€"term prime minister. McKenna didn‘t say much about his boss except to say as the holder of many portfolios over his many years in Ottawa, Chretien had the experience and the proâ€" grams to help Canada. It was McKenna who was at Liberal leader Jean Chretien‘s side when Chretien toured Atlantic Canada recently and he gamened about as much exposure as his leader during that tour. Before he came to Oakville, McKenna had been on a swing to western Canada to try and boost the Liberal fortunes in an area that has, traditionally, been a politiâ€" cal wasteland for the Grits. This time it might be different. This devastating end to human life amongst young people must come to a stop. Acceptance, even tolerance, is the only way to bring an end to this needless and tragic arrest of young lives. This is 1993; diversity includes people of all walks of life including Gays. Our Gay positive friends are also welcome. G L I S (Gays Lesbians In Support) meets weekly at Sheridan‘s Trafalgar Road campus in Oakville. No longer do Gays have to function in this community feeling isolated to the point that they say to themselves;, "Gee am I the only one???" I don‘t believe voters want to be misled and when Jean Chretien promises to spend billions on public works and make it "just like the good old days", that is exactly what he is doing â€"he‘s misleading us. College‘s gay community seeking acceptance > Dear Sir: I‘d like to respond to Diane Hart‘s column of Sept. 15/93, "Comment on unemployed means trouble for Campbell" and ask whether Ms. Hart feels politicians should deceive the public and make irresponsible promises or whether Canadians should be told about how things really are? I feel the Ontario Community Colleges were very timely when they implemented a task force to develop a policy on how to deal with "Harassment and Discrimination". Gays have been harassed and discrimiâ€" nated against for far too long. Acceptance is needed; discrimination and the harassment must come to an end. We need peace and harmony right here in Ontario, right here on our university and college campuses.
