Photo by Riziero Vertolli) It‘s been a good month for 13â€"yearâ€"old Alexander Smith. Last Sunday at the Ontario Indoor Combined Events Championships at York University, the Oakville athlete set three personal bests and ended up as the Ontario champion in the bantam boys triathlon. Other club members who competed at York University included: Josef Karas, 15, who was fourth in the midget boys quadrathlon; Joe Denes, 23, fourth in the senior men‘s pentathlon; and Brian Cles1elsk1 21, who was fifth in the senior event. Just shy of Ontario record He posted a first place finish in all three events â€" the 60â€"metre hurâ€" dles, high jump and shot put â€" to end up with a final point tally of 1,398 that was just 106 shy of the Ontario record. The previous week at the Spectator Indoor Games in Hamilton, he set two personal and meet records in the senior boys high jump and triple jump. Leading the way with a first overall finish was the 10â€"yearâ€"old Novice One team which was helped with some outstanding individual results.
