The Oakville Skating Club ice show is such a big undertaking that it is held only once every two years. More than 450 skaters will take to the ice â€" including the club‘s nationalâ€"caliâ€" bre precision skating teams â€" and the show will be capped off by a visit from Oakville‘s own Sean Rice and his senior pairs partner, Jodeyne Higgins. The pair placed third in the 1993 Canadian championships and 10th at the world championships. Performances will run 1:30 and 7 p.m. on the Saturday (April 9) and at 1:30 p.m. on the Sunday (April 10) at Oakville Arena. For tickets or information, phone the club office at 257â€"7771. Friday night game, after all The Oakville Skating Club has three teams â€" including two provincial champiâ€" ons â€" participating in the Canadian precision skating championships in Laval, Quebec this weekend. The three teams easily earned a berth to the national championships, which wrap up Sunday, with strong performances at the Central Ontario Championships. The senior team (12 years of age and up) led the way with a first place finish while the adult (75 per cent of the team must be over 24 years of age) and novice (12 to 15 years of age) finished in second place. The top three teams advanced. The Oakville Blades are playing Friday night, after all. A week and a half after being knocked out of the Provincial Junior "A" divisionâ€" al finals against the Hamilton Kilty Bees, the Blades will lace up the skates one last time this Easter Friday, 7:30 p.m. They‘re returning a favor by playing Oakville‘s own Maple Leaf Rangers â€" one of the country‘s top triple "AAA" midget hockey teams â€" who supplied several subs for the Blades throughout the year and who won the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) championship and will be competing in the Air Canada Ontario regional championships in Ottawa from April 6â€"10. The match will not only help raise muchâ€"needed cash to pay for the team‘s postâ€" season success, but will also help keep the midgets competitive fires burning. The fun affair will also feature autographs and prizes. The senior and novice teams then went on to win the subsequent provincial championships (there was no adult category).
