Gold medals went to David Punnett, 8, Marco Tschan, 9, and Alex Smith (Mississauga), 13, as the Athletiques International came home from the fourth annual Gord Rusby Memorial! Track and Field Meet at Burlington‘s Nelson Stadium May 7 with seven medals and 11 ribbons. The club captured 30 medals, including 19 gold, at their own meet which they hosted at T.A. Blakelock High School on April 30, in honor of the memory of the first head of physical education and the first track coach at the school. Marco Tschan won the tyke boys shot put at 6.01m (PR) and also recorded a 17.7s (PR) in the 100m. Alex Smith (Milton) continued his triple jump streak by capturing the bantam boys event with a personal record of 11.14m. He was also third in high jump at 1.55m. Megan Punnett, 11, came home with two bronze medals, as a result of a 2:47.1 in the atom girls 800m and anchoring the Guelph 4x200m relay team in 2:13.1. She also finished fourth in the triple jump with a personal record of 7.48m and fifth in the 100m with another personal record of 14.5s. Lane Quelch, 11, eamed his second personal record in as many weekends as he finished fourth in the atom boys 1500m in 5:22.1. He recorded his second personal record of the day in the 800m, covâ€" ering the two laps in 2:44.1. This year‘s meet attracted 427 ahtletes from 24 elementary schools, 12 secondary schools â€" up from 350 last year.
