Although he called his years at Sheridan rewarding, he is clearly thriving in his return to painting and benefiting from the resurgence in murals. "In the 60s and early 70s, we had a field day (making murals). They were everywhere under bridges, everywhere. And then we found ourâ€" selves back in art galleries." He shrugs and says. "It‘s like everything else. Murals are back again. Everyone wants to be a little different." But still, Turner dreams of the elusive wall; one where he can let his imagination go and paint as he pleasâ€" es. In fact, Turner even dreams of painting parchment pages on a downâ€" town Oakville wall depicting the hisâ€" tory of the town. "Wouldn‘t that be terrific?" he says, enthusiastically. Toronto make his eyes light up with More than anything else, Turner enthusiasm. "Oh, that‘s a great one, that one is. Just great." These days, he spends much of his painting time finishing up major projects like the southwest murals at Chaps and doing smaller ones such as painting an English garden on the back brick wall of an Oakville resiâ€" dent‘s house. He, and a group of associates in Toronto, often combine their talents on large projects such as the annual Toy Fair. In this massive show, which attracts numerous buyers, Turner and the other artists design and paint large theatrical sets. "Now, that one was a little tricky, with all the brick and the windows. But it was fun," he says. â€"His work on a set for the popular children‘s Xâ€"Men was another story. "All of a sudden, I‘m painting these 8 foot tall Xâ€"Men with shoulâ€" ders this wide and feet this small, and they‘re all diving at me and I‘m getâ€" ting really engrossed in the whole with a smile. And it is this aspect that constantly propels him into doing more and more mural work. "I love their faces when I‘m finâ€" ished, and they walk in to see it. I love the impact of it all," he says. Currently, he is working on a 109 foot mural on a lightâ€"hearted cruise theme for Bruce Hood Travel, in Bronte. And what happens if a vandal decides to do a number on all his hard work? "You have to get used to that (possibility). But to me, if you‘ve done it once, you can do it again. And it‘ll be a damn sight better than the first time!" Right now, he‘s happy to be painting, working on nifty projects, putting the finishing touches to his mural at Chaps, and just musing about his dream â€" a massive, empty, largerâ€"thanâ€"life wall where he can paint freely. _ "I think I‘ll be painting until the day I die," he says.
