Project delays could save town $2 million own Council proved Monday I night that nothing is carved in stone â€" not even its 10â€"year Capital Forecast. Based on recommendations by the Future Facilities Committee, councilâ€" lors voted to delay several major proâ€" jects which were slated to begin within the next few years. According to Committee chair and Ward 5 councilâ€" Town Hall expansion put off for later date Key recommendations include: Q Delay the $8.6 million expansion of Town Hall, which has adequate space for the next three to four years. Future space requirements could be accommodated by leasing temporary space or seeking partnerships with the private sector. Q Delay the $6.7 million construcâ€" tion of the Central Operations Facility. Construction will instead occur when the current Trafalgar Road site is phased out because of development plans in the Uptown Core. Limited facilities â€" such as salt and sand domes, fuel storage and office space worth about $475,000 â€" will be conâ€" structed in the interim. Q Delay the $1.2 million construcâ€" tion of the North Satellite Facility until the Trafalgar Road site is abandoned. The $2.7 million East Satellite facility, which includes salt and sand domes, yard facilities and work space for onâ€"site crews and personnel, will be constructed as scheduled. The Future Facilities Committee was comprised of councillors, Town staff, spokesmen from two residents groups and a representative from McCormick Rankin Engineering. lor Sean Weir, the move should save the Town‘s operating budgets more than $2 million over the next seven years. "I am very pleased that these recâ€" PuUD WHAT HAPPENEP IN T GOT AN A ommendations have been approved b Council," said Weir. "It is crucial fo}; N SCI-IOOI"-TODAY/ GUYS 2 lN H ‘STORY the Town to act responsibly in these Y «â€"<4 tough economic times by continually reâ€"evaluating the need for expendiâ€" Ry * tures that were planned in previous years." The Committee was formed in January 1993 to examine the need for a proposed expansion of Town Hall and other municipal facilities. It‘s main focus was to determine whether the needs for expansion as put forth in the Town‘s 10â€"year Capital Forecast were still applicable in their original timeframes. j Advemslng ............................................................ 6001 Question of the week.............
